This is the 2024 annual SOAS-QFC Public Lecture on Islamic Finance organised by the Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law (CIMEL) SOAS University of London in collaboration with Qatar Finance Centre (QFC). 

The aim of these annual public lectures is to advance scholarship and contribute to the debates on Islamic finance and to strengthen collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation amongst economists, lawyers, shari‘ah scholars and regulators in the field. Over the years the lectures have contributed significantly to the development of industry practices and helped to educate society about the ethical role that Islamic finance can play in modern financial markets. 

The year's lecture on "Islamic Finance in the Artificial Intelligence Age: Socio-Economic, Shari’ah, and Legal Challenges”, will be delivered by Professor Siraj Sait. Director of the Noor Centre for Equality and Diversity at the University of East London, UK. He is also the Co-Chair of the UN Habitat Stakeholder Advisory Group Enterprise (SAGE). In this lecture, Professor Sait will discuss the challenges and opportunities that Islamic Finance faces with the incursion of Artificial Intelligence, including risk management and financial inclusion. He will share insights on its socio-economic potential, adherence to Shari’ah principles, and legal challenges.

Professor Siraj Sait

He will share insights on its socio-economic potential, adherence to Shari’ah principles, and legal challenges.

 

The event will be Chaired by Professor Mashood Baderin, Professor of Law and Deputy Head of the SOAS School of Law.

The lecture is a hybrid event that will be held in the KLT Lecture Theatre and also streamed live on ZOOM.
