Prof. Reinhard Bachmann - Inaugural Lecture: Trust in Business Relationships

Professor Reinard Bachmann

The lecture will examine the concept of trust in business relationships. In doing so, it will place emphasis on the role of institutions in trust building processes. Empirical examples will be taken from comparative international studies. The lecture will conclude with some reflections on the future relevance of trust (research).

After Reinhard Bachmann had received his PhD from the University of Dortmund 1993, he held a post-doc position at Cambridge University's Department of Applied Economics (1993-1995). Later he continued his career at Hamburg University of Technology, Groningen University, Birkbeck, University of London (as a Reader 2003-2008) and University of Surrey (as Professor of Strategic Management 2008-2014). Reinhard joined SOAS on 1st July 2014. He has published seminal articles on the role of trust in business relationships and edited a number of books among which is 'The Handbook of Trust Research'. In 2012 Reinard established the 'Centre for Trust Research' which is currently transferred from University of Surrey to SOAS.
