Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber received an Honorary Fellowship from SOAS in 2002 in recognition of his contribution to scholarship and progress in the Arab world.

A businessman and philanthropist, Sheikh Mohamed has been a significant supporter of SOAS. Through his MBI Trust he has endowed both the MBI Al Jaber Chair in Middle Eastern Studies and is the Founding Patron and Donor of the London Middle East Institute.

Founder, Chairman and CEO of international conglomerate MBI International, Sheikh Mohamed dedicates much of his time to philanthropic activities. He is founder, sole patron and chairman of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation which has granted scholarships to hundreds of students from the Middle East to enable them to study at elite institutions. The Foundation has also made gifts of £1 million to both the University College London Institute for Cultural Heritage and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He is also a founding sponsor of London City University's Olive Tree Educational Trust to promote peace and tolerance between Palestinian and Israeli students.

Sheikh Mohamed has also been awarded a Doctorate of Letters from the University of Westminster, and an Honorary Degree from City University.

Sheikh Mohamed is the UNESCO Special Envoy for Education, Human Rights, Tolerance and Cultures with a mission to help build peace and democracy in the Middle East. He is also UN Spokesperson for Global Forums on Reinventing Government.
