Welcome to the SOAS BLE support pages
General Information and Background
The BLE is a Virtual Learning Environment, which is a web based system providing teaching and learning via the internet and designed for ease of use by people with varying levels of IT expertise. All you need is a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari), an internet connection and your password. You can access it anywhere from the world 24/7.
SOAS works closely with the other colleges in the Bloomsbury Consortium – the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHYM), Birkbeck and the Institution of Education (IoE) – to benefit from shared technical support, common training courses for academic and technical staff and the sharing of ideas and best practice. Find out more about the Bloomsbury collaboration here.
Moodle
SOAS has been using Blackboard as it’s VLE but will be moving to Moodle for the 12/13 academic session. The Moodle platform is more interactive than Blackboard, allowing a greater interaction between students and teaching staff online. Many of the tools used in Blackboard, Turnitin for essay submission, blogs for research logbooks and podcast feeds will be moving onto Moodle.
