Mandy Bentham Mandy Bentham joined SOAS in July 2002 and is the Director of Academic Development. Mandy has line management responsibility for the Academic Development Directorate and all its activities including quality assurance and enhancement, widening participation and learner support. She contributes strategically to learning and teaching initiatives across the School.

Marva De La Coudray
Head of Widening Participation
Marva de la Coudray

Marva joined SOAS in 2004 and is Head of Widening Participation. She is responsible for the School's Widening Participation Strategy which aims to encourage underrepresented groups into Higher Education. This includes providing strategic direction in areas relating to widening participation, access, outreach and partnership development. Marva also works closely with external agencies responsible for delivering the government's widening participation commitments including HEFCE & OFFA. She is co-Director of the London Consortium of the Routes into Languages programme – a partnership of 12 HEIs.

Renata Albuquerque
Project Manager, Capital L - Routes into Languages
Renata Albuquerque

Renata manages Capital L - Routes into languages, a consortium of 9 London universities led by SOAS which aims to increase and widen participation in language studies. Renata has responsibility for liaising between government maintained schools, Further Education colleges and universities to provide language curriculum enrichment activities including: ambassador presentations, tutoring and a range of employability, sport and art related activities to pupils aged between 13 and 19 years old and their parents.

Sarah Tucker

Sarah organises a range of activities for schools, colleges and other organisations with the aim of encouraging students from under-represented backgrounds to consider university. She is also involved in running the Student Ambassador scheme, in which current SOAS students represent the School by assisting in widening participation events.

Julian Boast

Julien has been at SOAS since 2008 and in his current role supports the transition of students from a variety of backgrounds into SOAS by devising and coordinating a programme of outreach and progression activities.

Mehmet Izbudak
Academic Teaching Developer, Programme Leader (Professional Development in Higher Education)
Mehmet Izbudak Mehmet is responsible for academic teaching development and support at the ADD. He runs and teaches the Higher Education Academy (HEA) accredited Professional Development in Higher Education Programme (PDHEP) at SOAS. He also designs, develops, organises and delivers Academic Teaching Development Workshops at the School and provides individual pedagogical support to teaching staff. In addition, Mehmet delivers a variety of generic and departmental skills support courses for research, masters and undergraduate students. Mehmet also works at Birkbeck College, University of London as a Sessional Lecturer in International Relations and Foreign Policy Analysis.

Linda O'Sullivan
E-learning Manager
Linda O'Sullivan

Linda joined the ADD in December 2008. She is the E-Learning Manager and provides staff and students with E-Learning support as well as coordinating the migration from Blackboard to Moodle, including the training of staff in the use of Moodle.

Jennifer Rhodes

Jenni Rhodes

Jenni has been at SOAS since 2004. She now works as Quality Assurance Manager in a job-share with Jan Dixon. Jenni has responsibilities across all areas of quality assurance and enhancement, particularly programme design and approval, and partnerships with other institutions.

Heidi Ward
Learning Development Manager
Heidi Ward

Heidi joined the team in 2004 and is responsible for supporting strategies and developing initiatives to enhance the student learning experience, maintaining awareness of best practice and research both within the School and externally. She manages the programme of study skills workshops, 1-1 tutorials and online support, including working with departments to provide students with subject-specific support. She is also responsible for the academic orientation for new students, including developing a new project of providing study support online via the BLE, the School’s virtual learning environment. Heidi is currently working in a job-share with Dr Angela Gallagher-Brett.

Angela Gallagher-Brett
Learning Development Manager
Angela Gallagher-Brett

Angela is responsible for the design and delivery of academic skills programmes for taught postgraduate students, including workshops on research methods for the dissertation and projects to enhance the academic experience at Masters level. She also provides discipline-specific support to departments and leads on the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey.  Angela has a PhD in Applied Linguistics and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research interests are language learning and teaching motivation and transition from school to university. Angela also works as a doctoral research trainer, PhD supervisor and project manager for the Routes into Languages Programme at the University of Southampton.

Yenn Lee
Research Skills Trainer/Coordinator
Yenn Lee

Yenn designs and delivers the School-wide research skills training for MPhil and PhD students, including workshops on data collection and analysis techniques. She is also responsible for a range of other tasks in relation to research degrees, such as providing one-to-one support and advice for individual research students, liaising with the SOAS Doctoral School, and contributing to the Bloomsbury Postgraduate Skills Network collaboration.

Before joining the ADD in September 2012, Yenn had a visiting teaching post at Royal Holloway, University of London, where she obtained a PhD in Politics and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education. She is also an active researcher in the field of digital politics, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

Chloe Weanie

Chloe joined SOAS in July 2014 as the Quality Assurance Officer, working with Jenni Rhodes.  As well as dealing with all general quality assurance matters Chloe is the secretary to the Learning and Teaching Quality Committee (LTQC), Joint Faculty Programme Panel (JFPP) and the Periodic Programme Reviews (PPRs).
