Sixth Form Mentoring at SOAS
SOAS student ambassadors are trained mentors and are available to mentor individual school or college students or small groups. Mentoring usually lasts a term or longer, and can be subject-specific or focussed on general study skills and applying to university.
Through mentoring opportunities we aim to equip mentees with improved study skills, to raise their academic attainment and future aspirations, and to aid them to prepare themselves for the transition to higher education.
Please see below for an example of a previous mentoring project:
Economics mentoring - St Charles Sixth Form College
In this project, a SOAS student studying Economics (and a former St Charles College student) worked with a group of Year 12 students at St Charles studying AS Economics with the aim of:
- Providing on-going targeted support for students learning Economics
- Participants meeting university students from similar backgrounds to their own
- Providing information, advice and guidance regarding progression to university
The project had a successful impact in its first year and has subsequently been prolonged, to work with the students on their A2 modules.
