Information for all distance learning students
Over the coming months there will be some important changes to our distance learning administration systems which, when implemented, will provide improved services for you.
New Online Learning Environment
We will be moving our online learning environment to a new Moodle platform during October 2013, replacing the current Blackboard site. Moodle provides better functionality and increased student choice. The new learning environment will be accessed via the University of London International Programmes’ (UoLIP) Portal, which will deliver the following advantages to our students:
- Single sign-in for the online learning environment and online library.
- Access to the University of London International Programmes’ resources, such as the bookstore, and regulatory and exam information
New login details for the new Moodle environment will be sent to you in time for your next session of study.
New Student Database
During 2013 we will also be moving our student records to a new system. Once this is completed students will be able to benefit from the below features:
- Simplified enrolment and payment process.
- Maintain and update personal details online
- Register for exams and access exam results
- Log queries via the online query handling system
- Have access to a University of London email account (Please note the existing SOAS email accounts will only be maintained for a further 6 months).
The migration of the student records systems is expected to take place in June/July 2013.
Important Notes
- Students will be required to register annually. To sit exams you will be required to register annually. This will start with immediate effect.
Once we switch to the Moodle platform any archived versions of modules you have previously studied will no longer be available. Therefore you must make copies of any documents you wish to keep from modules previously studied. We will keep you updated as we move through these important changes.

To accommodate the above changes we will only be running four study sessions in the next academic year:
