MA Gender Studies

The MA in Gender Studies at SOAS has introduced me to a wide horizon of disciplines within Gender Studies. Through this particular MA program I have had the privilege of learning not only from my peers, who come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, but also from teachers and scholars who specialise in the study of gender within various disciplines.

The unique point of studying at SOAS is the opportunity to draw upon a diverse range of disciplines and courses that connect to your main area of study. I was able to study about gender in law, politics, migration and development with the great privilege of being taught these courses by scholars specialising in these fields such as Dr Nadje Al-Ali, Dr Gina Heathcote and Dr Ruba Salih. The contribution of their expertise and experience as well as their accessibility is invaluable which makes SOAS a great choice for the study of gender.

My class included students from various countries and disciplines, many of whom were working in the field of gender. I learnt a lot from interacting with them as I had the opportunity to witness gender studies in action. My tutorials introduced me to a higher dimension of learning through our tutors who themselves are PhD students. SOAS truly opens up a horizon of possibilities, possibilities you can explore and build upon.
