BA Linguistics

Being a final year Linguistics student, I feel that I have learned a great deal about the ways of SOAS over the past three years. It is a quirky university making it stand out from all the rest, being extremely culturally diverse and welcoming towards students from all backgrounds. I was surprised to find out about the range of options available to me as well as Linguistics units, as I have been lucky enough to learn a language at SOAS outside of my main degree units, and I have even taken intercollegiate courses to enhance my experience.

I am extremely thankful that SOAS has given me the opportunity to learn about my heritage; being half English and half Filipino growing up in England in an extremely English home, I wasn’t exposed to my culture at all. However SOAS has allowed me to study in depth the national language as well as regional dialects of my country and I hope to go out there next year to trace my roots.
