BA Social Anthropology and Development Studies
Every day, on my way to SOAS, I had the feeling that I was travelling to other countries: meeting people, talking and hearing experiences and stories from around the world has transformed me and given me knowledge and enriched my thoughts.
Being at SOAS has been one of the most interesting experiences in my life, from both a social and academic point of view. The School has an atmosphere like no other place I have ever been. In fact, after my first visit to the university, I decided that if I did not get my grades, I would not go to any other place!
The courses are extremely varied and flexible which meant that, thanks to the courses I took on West Africa and the variety of sources I read, my passion for this region grew deeper. This flexibility also meant that I was able to broaden my horizons and deepen my knowledge of other parts of the world by taking a floater that was not linked to my degree.
The lecturers, tutors and students in SOAS are all inspiring individuals, having come from all over the globe to form the incredibly diverse and consequently unique community that we proudly call the SOASian community.
Socially, the opportunities on offer are limitless Ranging from taking part in societies, to creating your own society - you are sure to never be bored. Myself and a group of my friends created the SOAS Middle East Society last year, which was hugely successful and unbelievably good fun: from organising lectures on political Islam to the architecture in Lebanon and from fundraising dinners to movie showings, we were very active and we all had a great time.
Truly, deeply and sincerely, I love my time at SOAS and I cannot but seriously recommend that you choose to come here. I guarantee you that you will feel like part of the ‘family’ straightaway!
