The exhibition MODERN CHINESE INK PAINTINGS is on display at the British Museum from 3 May to 2 September 2012 (admission free)

The British Museum exhibition features 40 powerful ink paintings from the last 100 years by Chinese artists - from the traditionalist and forger Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) to the contemporary master Liu Dan (b. 1953). Modern Chinese paintings and artists, and their connections with Europe are all topics that will be explored in this Study Day. Speakers include Michael Sullivan (St. Catherine's College, Oxford), Clarissa von Spee (British Museum), Nixi Cura (Christie's Education), Yin Hwang (SOAS), Jiang Rui (Universität Heidelberg), Shane McCausland (SOAS), Nick Pearce (University of Glasgow), Michaela Pejcochova (National Gallery in Prague), Uta Rahman-Steinert (Museum für Asiatische Kunst, Berlin), Shelagh Vainker (Ashmolean Museum)
