The seminar will present late 16th century Persian illustrated manuscripts of ‘Aja’ib al-Makhluqat (Wonders of Creation) by the twelfth-century author Muhammad al-Tusi. It will show that these manuscripts served both as encyclopaedias of the natural and the supernatural worlds and as manuals of popular medicine and divination.
