Staying in Touch

By email, student pigeon holes, or post (change of address)...

Email

Please check your SOAS e-mail account regularly.  The School will use this address for many different issues ...... timetable changes, course meetings, seminars, study/work opportunities, re-registration, social events etc.

Your SOAS student e-mail can be accessed at mail.soas.ac.uk, using your SOAS login (your student ID number) and your password.

NOTE: Please change your password once you have logged in for the first time.  This can be done in the Accounts tab of the Settings menu.

If you have a personal e-mail account and would rather not have to log in to both, we recommend setting up a forwarding service from your SOAS e-mail account. To do so, use the following steps.

  1. Login to mail.soas.ac.uk
  2. Click on the "Settings" button at the top of the page
  3. Select the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
  4. Click the "Forward a copy of incoming mail to" option and enter your forwarding email address in the box
  5. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page

All arriving mail will now be sent to your personal e-mail address.  You may also wish to set a filter on your personal e-mail address to automatically move all arriving SOAS mail to a particular folder.

Please contact helpdesk or check the IT department webpage if you have any technical problems.

Student Pigeon Holes

Mail will normally be sent to your postal address.  However, items received at the faculty will be left in the student pigeon holes outside room 327 (Arts & Humanities Faculty Office).

If you wish to receive items in the faculty office please ensure the sender clearly identifies you as a student (ideally including your degree type and ID number) and also notes the department, eg.

Jane Bloggs (MA Student 123456)
Department of History
Faculty of Arts & Humanities, SOAS
Thornhaugh Street
London WC1H 0XG

Please note, these pigeon-holes will be cleared out prior to the beginning of term so do check regularly if you are expecting post.
