Alternative Email Essay Submission

If, having followed the preceding guidelines, you are still unable to submit your essay via BLE the instructions below will guide you through the backup email submission procedure.

PLEASE NOTE: If attempting to submit to a course in the Faculty of Languages & Cultures you should NOT submit your essay by email (as outlined below).  Instead, contact the Languages & Cultures faculty office directly for advice on how to proceed.

For all other students, this email facility must only be used for i) courses where online submission of coursework is being used and ii) only as a last resort if submission to BLE by the essay deadlines is expected to be impossible.

Required Steps

  1. Ensure you email your essay from your student email account.
  2. In the subject of your email include:
    1. Your six digit student ID number.
    2. Your course code.
(This is the 9 character code that identifies your course. It will be in the format 15 XXX XNNN for PG courses or 15 NNN NNNN for UG courses where X denotes a letter and N denotes a number).
    3. The assignment number.
  3. Copy and paste the text of your essay in to the body of your email.
  4. Attach the file you are attempting to submit, ensuring it conforms to the required formats noted in the "Format and File Details" section of the online submission guide.

Faculty of Languages & Cultures
For courses in the Faculty of Languages & Cultures, please contact your Faculty Office directly for advice on how to resolve any essay submission issues.
  • Your essay email will only be formally accepted once the faculty office have checked your attachment and uploaded it to BLE - this may occur several days after email submission.
  • Formal acceptance requires you to be fully enrolled on your course, your fees paid and there to be no outstanding administrative issues in your registration. Essays will not be marked unless these conditions are first satisfied.
  • When you send your essay you will receive an automated email reply.  Assuming you have followed the steps above correctly, the date and time of this email will be considered your date of submission.
  • Please be aware however that the submission date shown on BLE/Turnitin will be the date at which the Faculty Office uploaded your essay.  Please don't be alarmed by this: any penalty deductions are made on the student record system itself, where you actual recorded date of submission is stored.
