Approaching Law Group
The SOAS Approaching Law Group is a focal point for explorations of the nature, origins and implications of different ‘approaches’ to law. Some such approaches may be linked to specific disciplines--such as anthropology, architecture, politics, economics, history, law, international relations, sociology or the visual arts. Others are trans-disciplinary, such as feminist and critical approaches; or relate to different social realms--such as academia versus practice. Each is analytically, empirically and normatively distinctive; and each merits deep and reflexive investigation.
So members of the Group self-consciously challenge and elide intellectual boundaries. They respect and internalise multiple approaches and are committed to improving communication and learning among them.
We warmly welcome the involvement of those who are active in the types of research and practice outlined above.
