A presentation by Audrey Lenoël, University of Bristol

Audrey Lenoël is a Postgraduate Researcher at the School for Policy Studies (SPS) at the University of Bristol. She is currently completing a PhD thesis examining the impact of migration and remittances on women left behind in Morocco. This thesis, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), is a mixed-methods study combining quantitative analysis of household survey microdata from Morocco with analysis of semistructured interviews conducted in 2012 with women left behind in Southern Morocco. Prior to that, she worked as a Research Associate at SPS on the EU FP6 PROMINSTAT project (Promoting Comparative Quantitative Research in the Field of Migration and Integration in Europe), and as a Research Officer at the Immigration Research and Statistics service (IRS) of the UK Border Agency. Her main research interests include migration, development, integration, gender, and women’s empowerment.

There will also be a presentation from Idil Osman on the role of remittance in within the Somali diaspora. Idil holds a BA in Journalism Studies and an MA in Creative Writing and has worked more than 11years as a national and international journalist for the BBC, the Guardian and the Voice of America. She's the co-author of 'Somalia to Europe; Stories of the Somali Diaspora, abook that chronicles the civil war experiences of Somali Europeans and their subsequent migration to the UK. She's currently doing her PhD at Cardiff Univ looking at the role of the media in the Somali conflict.
