H.E. Berhanu Kebede graduated from the Department of Economics in Planning and Project Analysis at Addis Ababa University in 1978 and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1983, he transferred to the Diplomatic Mission in Brussels as an economist. In 1986 he gained an MA in Development Economics and in 1988 in Management and Finance, at the Free University of Brussels. He participated in all joint ACP-EU and ACP Council conferences held in Brussels and other regions. He was Chargé d’Affaires to the Russian Federation and in February 2002, was appointed Ambassador of Ethiopia to Scandinavia, then to the United Kingdom in March 2006. He attended all OAU Council and Summit conferences and ECA Ministerial Conferences held between 1992 and 2000. He attended the 48th to the 55th UN General Assembly sessions and the COMESA Council and Summit conferences. He participated in negotiations leading to the Lome II and III conventions - international aid and trade agreements between the ACP Countries group and the European Union.
