Memories Without Borders

Memories Without Borders (55-minute film) is a unique Turkish-Armenian-Azerbaijani documentary, looking at the impacts of troubled histories on individual lives today. The joint work of a team of Turkish, Armenian and Azerbaijani film-makers, the film traces legacies of violence stretching from mass murder in Ottoman Turkey in the early 20th century, to war in Nagorny Karabakh in the 1990s.

The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion and reception with special guests:

Exploring parallels and differences

At the meeting point between official history and personal lives, Memories Without Borders challenges audiences to ask: what do we choose to remember about others, and what do others choose to remember about us?

The first public screenings and debates took place across the South Caucasus (in Nagorny Karabakh, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan) and in Istanbul in October 2012; the film was also screened at the Pomegranate Film Festival in Toronto. There will be further public screenings in Western Europe and beyond in 2013.

The film is a collaboration between CAM Film (Istanbul), Internews Media Support NGO (Yerevan), Internews Azerbaijan (Baku) and the Stepanakert Press Club. It was facilitated by Conciliation Resources with the generous support of the European Union, through the European Partnership for the Peaceful Resolution of the Conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh (EPNK).
