Hany Rashwan will present papers in: The Royal African Society’s annual African literature and book festival, "Africa Writes 2014"; the “14th Conference of the International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature and Media"; in “The Language of Persuasion: Linguistic Approaches to Its Theory and Practice in the Classical World"; and in the workshop of “Ancient Egyptian Language and Texts 6."

The Second Annual CCLPS Postgraduate Conference, "From the Speech to the Act: Performativity on the Margins"

The Second Annual CCLPS Postgraduate Conference, From the Speech to the Act: Performativity on the Margins held on 13 June 2014 was a resounding success. Selected papers from the conference will be published in an upcoming issue of the SOAS Journal of Postgraduate Research. A podcast of the conference is also forthcoming.

The Gogodala people of Papua New Guinea believe they are descended from the lost tribes of Israel 'Nature' Article Digs into Judaism's Roots

Most Jewish communities around the world, with the notable exception of  the one in Ethiopia, can trace their genetic lineage back to the Levant, according to an article in this week's edition of the journal Nature. It was co-authored by SOAS Professor of Modern Jewish Studies Tudor Parfitt.
