Series: The China Debate

To celebrate the launch of the SOAS China Institute we are hosting “China: The Landscape”,  the first of our new SOAS China Institute Lecture Series.  The Series will present original and valuable perspectives on China that cut across business, media, government and academia.  At this inaugural event, four senior-level China experts from different sectors will offer their views on the landscape they face in their personal and professional interaction with Chinese economic, political, social and cultural reality.

Panelists include:
  • Rosemary Foot, Professor of International Relations at Oxford
  • Stephen Lillie, Director for Asia Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
  • Simon Robey, Chairman of the Royal Opera House
  • Wenguang Shao, Managing Director of Phoenix Chinese News & Entertainment Limited;
  • Chair: Prof Michel Hockx (Director, SOAS China Institute)

Over the coming year, the SOAS China Institute Lecture Series will provide unique opportunities to gain insight into China through the perspectives of internationally respected experts from both inside and outside of China.  The Series will examine the fundamental issues facing China today within the context of the SOAS China Institute’s eight areas of expertise and focus, which include: China in Asia, Africa and the Middle East; Population and Change; Education and Censorship; Health, Water and Food Security; Images and Imagination; Energy and Climate; Rights and Justice; Beliefs and Communities.
