CISD Programmes
The MA International Studies and Diplomacy provides a unique educational opportunity for individuals interested in acquiring a better understanding of the nature of contemporary global issues. It is designed for those engaged in or planning to embark upon a professional career requiring international expertise as a diplomat or member of a government department, an international civil servant or member of a non-governmental organisation in such as the development aid or humanitarian fields, an employee of an international company or the media. The programme will also suit those wishing to deepen their academic and practical understanding of international affairs and contemporary diplomatic practice. The programme is unique in including practical training in negotiation, mediation, policy analysis, speech writing and media skills.
The MA Globalisation and Multinational Corporations is designed for those engaged in or planning a career in an international professional arena relating to the political and economic management and regulation of multinational enterprises. Whether as an advisor, researcher or manager with a multinational enterprise, an international civil servant, a member of non-profit organisations or government departments or future academic this interdisciplinary programme specifically addresses the requirements of those wishing to deepen their theoretical and practical understanding of the role and workings of large corporations in the global economy and international affairs. In addition students are taught project management and advanced media skills.
The MSc Global Energy and Climate Policy is the first Masters programme to jointly address the issues of climate and energy policy in an integrated fashion. Issues of conflict and geopolitics, corporate monopoly, regulatory change and the rise of countries such as China, India and Brazil are considered with nuclear power, renewable energy and fossil fuels in the context of climate change. Building on the global policy and governance expertise within CISD and SOAS this course will enable students to acquire the knowledge, understanding, skills and aptitudes necessary to proceed to careers in cross-cultural and international professional contexts relating to energy and climate policy.
