Office for Fair Access Gives SOAS Thumbs Up
SOAS is meeting or exceeding most of its targets to support lower income and under-represented students. These findings are contained in a report by the Office for Fair Access (OFFA) which examined SOAS’ widening participation assessments and access agreement.

SOAS Welcomes New and Returning Students
Monday marks the beginning of Welcome Week at SOAS, during which thousands of new and returning students arrive at the School to settle in for the new academic year.

Four SOAS Students Named 'Future Leaders'
Four SOAS students have been selected as Future Leaders 2011-12, a list of "100 of Britain's most outstanding new black graduates". The four students are Joshua Price (BA History 2011), Toib Olomowewe (BA Economics and History 2011), Olamide Bada (LLB School of Law 2011) and Kanika Mayi (BA African Studies and Politics 2011).

SOAS Radio is the new home to DJ Ritu's popular world music show, A World in London. Originally broadcast on BBC London, Ritu’s show has a reputation for presenting a rich cultural mix that reflects the diverse musical tastes of London and its people.

Migration Centre and Partners Win £3.2 Million Research Grant
The SOAS Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies and five partner institutions have been awarded a research grant to research and provide training in migration studies.

SOAS Granted Degree Awarding Powers
The School of Oriental and African Studies has been granted the power to award degrees in its own name. Until now, it has only been able to award degrees on behalf of the University of London.

Lindiwe Dovey Wins 2011 Director’s Teaching Prize
A senior lecturer in the Department of African Languages and Cultures, Dr Dovey impressed the judging panel with both her support of students and her creative teaching style. Professor Philip Jaggar, the Head of the Africa Department, described her as “one of the most dynamic and innovative teachers I have worked with in 40 years.”

BBC Radio 2 will broadcast The Robeson Files, a documentary on the American singer, actor, athlete and activist Paul Robeson, who studied at SOAS in the 1930s.

SOAS Appoints New Dean of Arts and Humanities
Professor Gurharpal Singh has been appointed the new Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He will take up the position on 1 September 2011 when the current Dean, Professor Ian Brown, steps down.
