This course introduces students to the development achievements of the ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Brunei).  Attention is centred on growth and on issues such as export-oriented industrialisation, the role of government, the impact of development on the environment and regional economic co-operation.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the course

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

1. Summarise the development achievements of the ASEAN countries
2. Outline the economic growth of the ASEAN countries
3. Describe such issues as export-oriented industrialism, the role of government, the impact of development on the environment and regional economic co-operation.  

Method of assessment

Exam 80% / Coursework 20% (2 essays each of 10%). Resubmission of coursework regulations do not apply to this course.
