Objectives and learning outcomes of the course

The ISP gives students the opportunity to undertake independent research and study in depth any question relating directly to Hebrew language and/or literature, or to Israel, its culture, history, society, or politics.  Students will be guided by a member of the Faculty in choosing an appropriate topic and working to produce a well-structured work of academic writing.

Scope and syllabus

The Independent Study Project (ISP) is a piece of supervised independent work. It may be on any aspect of Hebrew and Israeli studies approved by the course tutor. Candidates research their projects, with guidance from the tutor and others as appropriate, during the first two terms and submit their results in the form of an academically acceptable essay.

Method of assessment

One essay of 10,000 words to be submitted by Friday week 1, term 3.
