Module overview
Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
This module aims to allow the student to research and write up an aspect of South Asian Culture not otherwise covered in the curriculum, and to develop research and writing skills.
In consultation with the supervisor, the student will identify a suitable topic for research, and will establish an initial reading list. This topic may be connected to the 15 credit module in Directed Readings: the two may run in parallel or in sequence (Directed Readings in term 1, Extended Essay in term 2). Progress will be monitored at occasional meetings, at least 5 in number, and draft essays should normally be ready before the end of term 2, for revision and completion in the vacation.
Workload
Total of 5 hours supervision throughout the academic year.
Method of assessment
- One 5,000 word essay (100%) to be submitted term 3
