Objectives and learning outcomes of the course
This is an intermediate course designed to develop comprehensive reading skills and to expand vocabulary systematically beyond the 1,500+ characters level reached in Special Course in Chinese III. It aims to achieve a capability of independent study of documentary Chinese texts, while giving considerable attention to oral skills. Students will be able to engage in conversation on general topics as well as give sustained oral presentation on a familiar topic.
Total of 20 weeks teaching with 4 hours classroom contact per week.
Scope and syllabus
A wide range of topics will be covered including the environment, politics, education and other social issues.
Method of assessment
One three-hour written examination taken in May/June (50%); one oral examination taken in May (20%); end of term 1 test (written and oral) (10%); end of term 2 test (written & oral) (10%); regular course work assignments throughout the year (10%).
