The Independent study project (ISP) is a piece of supervised independent work. It may be on any aspect of Iranian languages approved by the supervising tutor. Candidates research their projects, with guidance from the tutor and others as appropriate, during the first two terms and submit their results in the form of an academically acceptable essay.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the course

To give the student an opportunity to undertake an in-depth study of a particular language or particular topic within the general area of Iranian languages. By close reading of original sources and secondary literature the student will develop critical faculties and other research skills in addition to knowledge of the specific topic.

Method of assessment

One essay of 10,000 words to be submitted by Friday week 1, term 3.
