The objective of the course is to provide the students with training in academic research and writing. At the end of the course the student should be able to talk/write with a high level of knowledge, skill and competence about the topic s/he has chosen to investigate for the purpose of the study project.
Workload
10 hours supervision in total.Scope and syllabus
An independent study project of 10,000 words on an approved topic in the language/literature/culture/society in one or more countries of the region of study in some depth. It provides the opportunity to seek out information from various sources, but in particular, to use the language of study in a focused way. Essay-writing skills learned in the first and second year of study will be put into practice.
Students taking the ISP must be in contact with the course convenor Dr Dana Healy at the earliest opportunity for help formulating a suitable topic, identifying a supervisor and other support.
