Prerequisites
A minimum pre-requisite is to have passed Advanced Somali: Formal Usage. Other students will be assessed by the convenor as to whether their level of Somali competence is good enough or not.Objectives and learning outcomes of the course
At the end of the course the students will have a solid foundation in Somali literature from the late nineteenth century to the present. Given the strong relation between literature and political circumstances the students will also gain some insight into important periods of Somali history.
Students will master the terminology related to literature (in both Somali and English) and will have an understanding of the formal stylistic requirements, recognizing and naming the major metrical patterns and understanding how this and alliteration are used creatively by poets
Workload
A total of 22 weeks teaching with 2 hours classroom contact per week.Method of assessment
