This full course-unit is offered to students who already possess sufficient and certified knowledge of any one of the languages employed by various Buddhist traditions of Asia , such as:
- Sanskrit,
- Pali,
- Chinese,
- Korean,
- Japanese,
- Tibetan,
- Mongolian,
- Thai
- Burmese.
Students competent in any of the above languages are invited to improve and perfect their skills in translating Buddhist texts which are already edited or in both editing and translating. The texts to be translated should be selected from among those which do not exist in English translation; exceptions may be made in the case of badly edited or poorly translated texts. All selections must be approved by individual supervisors.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the course
The expected outcome of this independent translation exercise is the acquisition of proficiency in translating Buddhist texts with competence and accuracy. In addition the student should also learn how to cope and annotate technical terms and obscure passages.
