The student will thereby gain both an insight into research methodology and a deeper understanding of linguistics perspectives in particular in relation to the chosen topic.
Workload
Directed readings courses run for a total of one term with 3-6 hours tutorial per term. The student is expected to spend 2 hours per week on project work.Scope and syllabus
This course is a one-term seminar on a specialised topic or language on which SOAS has staff with the required expertise, but for which there is no regular course. The format of the course will to some extent vary in individual cases, but should consist of regular one-to-one tutorials between student and instructor. A reading list and project outline is agreed and progress is discussed.
