An overview of music in China, Japan, and Korea, giving in-depth analysis of the th ree major music cultures, from traditional genres to Western-influenced pop styles. Other topics include notation and transmission, music of minorities, sociopolitical aspects and others. In their course essays, students may focus more on one specific state. Performance is available separately, and students are encouraged to develop performance skills in a specific music genre of one of the three states in order to enhance and underpin analytical skills.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the course

An overview of music in China, Japan, and Korea, giving in-depth analysis of the th ree major music cultures, from traditional genres to Western-influenced pop styles. Other topics include notation and transmission, music of minorities, sociopolitical aspects and others. 

In their course essays, students may focus more on one specific state.
