This optional unit presents an introduction to the concepts and theoretical models of development and North-South economic relations. It focuses on the economic, social and political aspects of development and offers a critical comparison between developed and developing world perspectives. Topics include:

  • debt management
  • foreign aid
  • population
  • gender
  • the environment
  • historical legacies of colonialism
  • current roles of organisations like the UN, the World Bank, the IMF and other NGOs
