Learning at Work

Unit value:

Learning at Work Day:

  • Learning at Work Day (22nd May 2008) is about recognising and promoting the benefits of workplace learning. With the objective of “creating a passion for learning that sustains people for life”
  • It is a national initiative coordinated by the charity Campaign for Learning – as part of Adult Learners Week (17th – 23rd May 2008).

Adult Learner’s Week:

  • Adult Learners week is the UK’s largest celebration of learning.
  • It promotes education and training for adults and also provides access to information and guidance.
  • It aims to motivate a wider range of adults to participate in learning and celebrates their learning achievements.

Learning at Work Day Themes:

The theme of this year’s Learning at Work Day is “Sustainable Workplaces” which can be broken down into three main categories:

Work / life balance: 

Focuses on maintaining the wellbeing of individuals in terms of health, flexible working, time keeping, stress, working from home.

Learning through life: 

Focuses on skills requirements of organisations and the need for continual learning such as Skills for Life needs (numeracy and literacy), soft skills, learning influencers (peer, line manager, coaching, mentoring).

Environment: 

Focuses on our surroundings in terms of carbon footprint, health & safety, community, global sustainability and growth.
