ICDL Programme (LSHTM)

The International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) [formerly the ECDL] is the global IT qualification that enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. The ICDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a qualification in computing to help them with their current job, develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects.
The ICDL syllabus is made up of seven modules. Candidates are required to pass a test in each of the modules to obtain the full ICDL certificate (Level 2). The seven modules are:
- Concepts of IT
- Using the computer and managing files
- Word Processing
- Sspreadsheets
- Database
- Presentation
- Information and Communication

The programme is very flexible, consisting of classes, informal support sessions and tests. The amount of time needed to complete the programme will depend on your previous IT experience. As a minimum, you will need to attend seven 45-minutes tests but most candidates find it necessary to devote further study time to at least some of the seven modules. As a rough guide, to pass a modules of which you have little or no previous experience, you may need to spend 12 - 12 hours of study time, making 70 - 84 hours of the entire programme. Taught lasses will be held three times a week. these classes are repeats, so candidates should only need to attend one session for each module.
