Get Your Students Interacting Online: Discussion Boards on the BLE

Any new or existing BLE users on the SOAS staff. A basic knowledge of the BLE is useful but not essential.
Course Content:
Have you or your students used online discussion boards (either on the BLE or elsewhere)? What are the benefits and challenges of using them?
In this session, we will look at the use of online discussion boards- both on the BLE and in general- and Federica Oradini will demonstrate some ways they can best be used by students and teachers to encourage online participation and discussion outside class.
You will also be encouraged to participate in an online Discussion Board which will be created in advance of the session itself, and which should help give you a clearer and more realistic idea of the user’s perspective.
Aims and Objectives:
- To introduce participants to the concept and basic functionality of discussion boards
- To demonstrate some examples of their use
- To discuss some of the benefits and challenges of using discussion boards and how they can motivate your students and enhance their learning
- To practise using a discussion board on the BLE
