Getting Students to Submit their Assignments Via the BLE

Unit value:

Target Audience:

Any new or existing BLE users on the SOAS staff. A basic knowledge of the BLE is useful but not essential.

Course Content:

Did you know that your students can also submit their assignments to you online via the BLE?

In this session we will look at how you can use these tools to make the submission process much more efficient for both you and your students.

Dr Roberto Mazza, who was highly commended in last year’s Director’s Teaching Prize, will be discussing how he has been using the tools with his students and the positive feedback he has received.

We will also be looking at ‘Safe Assign’, the anti-plagiarism tool built into the BLE. This allows you to check students’ online submissions for the possibility of plagiarism, and can be useful in raising students’ awareness of the issues surrounding the problem.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To introduce participants to the basic functionality of online submission and anti-plagiarism software
  • To demonstrate some examples of the tools in use
  • To discuss some of the benefits and challenges of allowing students to submit their work online
  • To briefly consider some of the issues surrounding student plagiarism
  • To practise using the tools on the BLE
