SOAS Management Programme Level 1

Aim:
The aim of this programme is to deliver the objectives identified in the HR strategy and staff survey 2007, referring to management development.
Target Group:
Administrative, research and clerical staff who manage individuals or small teams or who will be taking on responsibilities for people within the next 3 months.
Programme:
This is a 3-day programme with some pre-course preparation and work-related tasks between sessions.
Day 1
- Understanding roles and responsibilities
- Individual strengths and style, developing new skills
- Understanding and exploring your Myers Briggs profile
- Managing yourself, your time and stress
Day 2
- Review of day one
- Managing and developing others
- Motivating and delegating to enhance effectiveness
- Building a successful team
- Leadership skills that work
- Influencing skills
- Communicating successfully
Day 3
- Review of previous modules
- Needs identified by participants
- Understanding and managing change
- Getting the best from others
- Dealing with difficult situations
- Managing your own career
For those who have completed, or nearly completed, Level 1 there will be an opportunity to attend the accredited CMI Introductory Certificate in Management courses held at Senate House, subject to funds being available.
