Specific aims of the course
This course aims to develop a critical understanding of the major theoretical approaches to risk from a number of different disciplinary perspectives. The course aims to develop students’ knowledge of individual and social theories of risk in relation to processes of environmental risk assessment, governance, perception and communication. Students will develop their skills in applying theoretical understanding to empirical case studies in order to better understand the issues at stake in contemporary debates about environmental risk.
