Abstract

Thomas will discuss the findings of my recent book Vietnam in the Global Economy: Dynamics of Integration, Decentralization and Contested Politics. He will provide a theory how Vietnam's strong, centralized state managed to portray an image of limited rent seeking; and why the often hypothesized regulatory race to the bottom did not occur in Vietnam when the country entered the global economy.
