Screening and Assessment

Do you think you may have dyslexia or another specific learning difficulty but you aren’t sure?

One of the Learning Advisors will carry out an initial screening and advise whether a diagnostic assessment is required and how to organise this. Contact studentservices@soas.ac.uk to make an appointment.

Have you been diagnosed before and need information or advice?

Contact one of the  Student disability advisors, to discuss procedures and services available. To make an appointment contact studentservices@soas.ac.uk or tel: 020 7074 5015

Going for an assessment: procedures and financial support

The assessment will be carried out by an Educational Psychologist or specialist teacher. The Disability Officer or the Learning Advisor will give you a contact list.

Assessments cost approximately £350. If you need help paying for this, the International and student welfare officers will advise you about how to apply to the Access Fund.

Home students can also apply for Hardship funds to help with the cost. Overseas and EU students can discuss other possible sources of extra funding. For further information contact the International Student and Welfare Advisor: welfare@soas.ac.uk

If the assessment finds that you do have dyslexia or another specific learning difference, contact the Disability Advisors about the support you are entitled to on studentservices@soas.ac.uk or tel: 020 7074 5015.
