Loan Equipment from Disability Office

The Disability office has a small range of equipment to loan to students who are unable to get the equipment for themselves through the Disabled Students Allowance.  If you would like more information about the equipment or think borrowing a piece of equipment might help you please contact the Disability Advisors on disabilities@soas.ac.uk or phone 020 7074 5015 to make an appointment to see them.

Electronic equipment includes: 
  • laptops with specialist software for students with specific learning difficulties  - Dragon (voice recognition), Mindmanager (mind-mapping), Claroread (screen-reading) 
  • laptops with specialist software for students with visual impairments   - Jaws or Supernova (screenreading), Zoomtext (enlarging)
  • digital recorders 
  • scanners 
  • digital media keyboards (separate keyboards to plug into your laptop) 
  • portable word processors (Alphasmart Neo and Dana) 
  • Noise cancelling and high quality headphones for use with Dragon
  • FM Genie kit transmitter and receiver (wireless communication system designed specifically for use by people with a hearing loss) 
  • portable electronic dictionaries and spell-checkers
Ergonomic equipment includes:
  • Mouse and keyboard wrist pillows
  • Adjustable foot rests
  • Portable 'Backfriend' back rest and seat
  • Portable laptop desks
  • Portable writing slopes
