Recent Developments in Equality and Diversity Legislation
The Equality Bill (pdf; 425kb) received Royal Assent on 16th February 2006. It establishes the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), which has subsumed all three of the existing equality commissions with a single enforcement body to underpin the breadth of equality and human rights legislation. In September 2006 it was announced that Trevor Phillips from the Commission for Racial Equality would chair the new Commission.
