Emergency Egress for Disabled People
Staff and Students
All staff members and students are strongly encouraged to disclose any impairment or medical condition which affects their ability to either use the stairs OR to exit the building in an emergency, in order that appropriate arrangements can be made to ensure their safe evacuation in the event of an emergency (or lift breakdown).
Any staff member (or their line manager) who needs to make such a disclosure should contact Deb Viney, the Diversity Advisor, by e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling extension 4957; Deb will contact other members of the team as appropriate.
Students should contact the Student Disability Advisor (Zoë Davis) by e-mail on email@example.com or by calling extension 5018.
If you are inviting a visitor that you know to be disabled then please advise them of this policy.
Visitors can contact SOAS Health and Safety Office in advance to arrange their emergency egress. Any visitor wishing to make advance arrangements should contact the health and safety officer by e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org
(when the alarm rings) simply move to a refuge point and use the communication device provided there to contact help.
