Academic Entry Requirements
Academic backgrounds vary and 'majors' in the past have included - Linguistics, English language/literature, Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities. Entry requirements will vary according to your home institution and the department you are applying to. Applicants should contact the Erasmus coordinator in their university for more information.
English Entry Requirements
In addition to meeting your university's academic entry requirements, prospective exchange students must also have sufficient English language proficiency.
Please see the English Language Requirement page for more details on tests and required scores for an unconditional offer.
What if my English level is below this?
It is possible for students with a slightly lower score to be offered a place on this exchange as long as they complete one of the English language courses at SOAS before the academic year starts in September. Many exchange students do a 'pre-sessional' course that lasts either 4, 8 or 12 weeks over the Summer before the year or term of the exchange programme. Please look here to find out more about pre-sessional courses. You might also want to consider the English Language and Academic Studies Programme (ELAS). Students can study on this programme for either 3, 6 or 9 months prior to the start of the exchange.
Exchange programme students can also choose to take an English language course during their exchange year at SOAS (called an 'in-sessional' course).
If you would like more information on any of the English courses, please contact IFCELS directly. E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org; tel: +44 (0)20 7898 4800.
