About this event

Iqbal Wahhab, OBE, FRSA (Founder Of Roast Restaurant And The Cinnamon Club On)

In this lecture, restaurateur and social campaigner Iqbal Wahhab will speak about the importance customers, employees and wider stakeholders place on the social impact of restaurants.

The Bangladesh-born founder of The Cinnamon Club and Roast will describe his involvement in food start-ups, his engagement with ex-offenders, and his support for a project to enable unemployed women to come off benefits and into work in the catering industry. These initiatives have not only empowered such groups but also redressed skills shortages, improved employee retention and attracted new customers who share the values of a company that is undertaking such initiatives.

In support of his argument that social responsibility should no longer be a side dish but rather the main course, Wahhab will highlight the work of other restaurants and organizations that have developed viable businesses around core values emphasizing similar forms of social engagement.
