DL (Lockhart or ‘Lock’) Lorimer was the Vice Consul for Arabistan and involved in the early development of the Persian oil industry.
The photos shown below are from a 1906-8 collection of Lorimer’s lantern slides now held at the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS). Unusually, the images are of ordinary people, getting on with their lives.
Lorimer was interested in philology, and published on the phonology of Western Iranian dialects, including the Bakhtiari. He also collected and translated Bakhtiari verse.
Christina Lorimer, DL Lorimer's grand-niece has kindly contributed a more detailed commentary about her great uncle.
