Jane and Howard Ricketts Collection
Jane and Howard Ricketts are amongst the pioneers of photographic collecting in Britain. They initially specialised in British 19th-century photography, starting to collect Indian photographs in 1972. Hampered by the lack of published material, Jane Ricketts researched the subject through 19th-century Indian newspapers and journals. Her work helped to shape the first major British exhibition of photographs of India, 'Images of India - Photographs of the Sub-Continent' sponsored by the Yorkshire Arts Association and presented in Sheffield, York and Wolverhampton in 1981.
