Jari

Thursday 20 January - Saturday 25 March 2000

Due to popular demand this exhibition will be open on the following Saturdays - 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th March.

Jacob Jari

From one reject to another Jacob has moved from using cornstalk to using leftover fabric from the tailors. The underlying message has however remained the same. Society can only improve when everybody, regardless of class, is taken aboard. His method of work is also maintained, the surface of the canvas is defaced with holes created by red-hot metal. The salvaging process, which is the designing aspect, involves the covering of the holes with selected pieces of fabric either by improvisation or by construction. Jacob refers to this manner of expression as the "bullet-hole" series. His work tries to glorify those reclaimed from the brink. He teaches at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
