Gagaku
Dr Hughes (SOAS) and Mr Shimizu, the head of Tenri cultural centre in Koln present Gagaku, the oldest surviving orchestra in the world. Gagaku is the background music of the Tale of Genji, the world’s oldest novel written by a woman, the lady Murasaki, which is included in the exhibition 1000 Years of the Art of Japanese Books. The workshop includes explanation of the music theory and opportunity to play some musical instruments.
Japanese tea ceremony
Enshuryu School presented by Master Mineko Miura from Holland. The workshop is chaired my Prof. Screech of SOAS. The workshop includes the explanation of the history, equipment, protocols and the manners of the tea ceremony.
Twenty five people will be given an opportunity to buy tickets to participate via Mr Nobu Takeuchi takeuchi123@hotmail.com in advance. (£7 pounds each. £5 pounds for students. £3 pounds for SOAS students). The rest of the audience will watch while the ceremony takes place.
